Do you ever find yourself struggling to trust in the Lord? I know I do at times. For me, the best remedy to this struggle is reminding myself of His steadfastness.
What is steadfastness?
According to Webster Dictionary, steadfast means, “firmly fixed in place, immovable, [and] not subject to change”. It cites synonyms such as constant, faithful, loyal, and steady.
Our God is the epitome of steadfastness. He is a firm foundation, He has always remained faithful to His promises, and He doesn’t change.
God is not man, that he should lie, or a son of man, that he should change his mind. Has he said, and will he not do it? Or has he spoken, and will he not fulfill it?
-Numbers 23:19 (ESV)
Just like this verse from the book of Numbers suggests…
1. God is truthful.
2. God’s beliefs don’t change.
3. God is consistent in word and in deed.
If you think about your life, I’m sure you can recall many people who have hurt, abandoned, or lied to you. The beautiful thing about God is He will never be included on that list of people. In fact, He will stand alone on the list of names of the people that have always remained loving and loyal to you.
I believe that our reason for a lack of trust in Him is often rooted in our lack of understanding of Him. If we really knew of His character, it would be harder to find a reason not to trust Him than it would be to find a reason to trust Him.
Throughout the 66 books of the Bible, God has shown himself to be steadfast in all His ways. When His people were unfaithful to Him, He responded with justice and mercy. When His believers were persecuted for His name’s sake, He gave them strength and protection to endure. No matter the circumstance, His words and His actions have always aligned and remained true—that’s something we can always depend on.
God’s character has never changed and will never change. What a blessing it is to confidently serve a God that promises to fulfill what He has spoken and cover us with His unfailing, never-ending love. God is dependable—unlike anyone else that we will ever encounter in our lives.
Matthew 7:24-27 gives us the idea that He alone is our firm foundation. The reason we build our lives on Him and not on things of the world is because He is unmovable in the midst of chaos. When all goes south, He remains steady while the world falls apart. When we face storms of all kinds—as we will in this life on earth—He is the surest way to endure.
Recently, I decided that I needed to be more proactive in reminding myself of His steadfastness. When I find it troubling to trust Him—even in little things—I take out a notecard with Proverbs 3:5-6 written on it, and I read it to myself. I encourage you to find a way to remind yourself of His steadfastness when you struggle to trust Him.

What’s keeping you from trusting Him today? What can you give to Him and trust Him with right now, in this very moment?
