“For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks.” (ESV) – Luke 6:45
(The NIV translation says “For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of.”) This verse holds so much truth, especially considering that Jesus Himself spoke these words.
This verse says that out of the abundance or fullness of the heart, words are spoken to reflect that abundance and fullness. My question is: What does that abundance and fullness consist of within yourself?
My point in this question is for you to examine your heart and decide what it is allowing for your mouth to speak. The fact of the matter is, if you are filling yourself with faith and the Word of God, then the things that come out of your mouth will be reflectant of that. In the same regard, if you are filling your heart with unbelief and unholiness, then the things that come out of your mouth will be reflectant of that.
The definition of abundance is “a very large quantity of something”. It is up to you to decide what very large quantity of something is. It can be good, or it can be bad. But just know that whatever your heart is abundantly full of is what is going to come out in word form and in action.
Luke 6:44 says that “each tree is known by its own fruit” (ESV). The Fruit of the Spirit are love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Think of yourself as a tree. What kind of fruit do you want to bear? Your goal should always be to bear (have/consist of) these fruits and not rotten fruit. The fruition of your life can be seen of the outward consistency of how you act and speak. Whatever your heart is full of is how you speak. And whatever you bear in fruit will be seen and known.
Just like we can choose what to eat and fill our bodies with, we can choose what to fill our spirit with. And out of the abundance of that placement, your mouth will speak in reflection. You will notice that as you fill yourself with the things of God, He will begin to flow in and through you in an immeasurable standard.
God bless!
Good challenge!

My favorite personal growth speaker Zig Ziglar expressed it this way: you are what you are and where you are because of what’s gone into your mind. You can change what you are and where you are by changing what goes into your mind.
In other words, your input determines your outlook, your outlook determines your output, and your output determines your future.
Your focus determines your reality. Paul said to set your mind on things above. Jesus said to first seek the Kingdom of God. Focus on the things of the Kingdom, and all of the good things that God has for you “will be added unto you.”
